Trayvon vs George

If you know me, you know that I keep it real. I want to keep it real for a few moments.

1st off, R.I.P to Trayvon Martin.

I'm sure you know about this situation by now. Black teen is walking in a nice neighborhood, (I can't necessarily say that it was a white neighborhood, because Zimmerman is of half hispanic decent, but it was gated to my knowledge, so it wasn't Compton, California), Zimmerman (a self-appointed neighborhood watch guy) calls the police and says that he sees some suspicious activity and he plans to make a citizen's arrest. He starts a pursuit against the black teen while on the phone with the 911 operator. The operator tells Zimmerman to pump his brakes and that police were on their way, but Zimmerman (a guy that obviously has anger issues according to the police officer he scuffled with or his ex-fiance who he shoved around http://www.smh.com.au/world/who-is-george-zimmerman-20120325-1vs1a.html) says no way jose and continues pursuit!

Now here is where the story gets fishy...

There was a neighbor that heard the scuffle outside of her door, and she called 911. The call was obviously recorded, and you can hear a boy screaming help, and then you hear a gun shot. Another report says that a witness saw little 140 lb Trayvon Martin knock 250+lb Zimmerman on the ground, get on top of him and start wailing at his head, at that time Zimmerman pulls out his gun and shoots Trayvon in the chest. In both situations, Trayvon is dead and gone. Zimmerman claims self-defense and under the "Stand Your Ground" law, he is able to walk free to this day.

Here is my opinion on all of this mess.....

I'm going to put myself in Trayvon's shoes. Let's say that I'm walking down the street eating a healthy snack (my wife won't let me eat skittles) and I see a loser eyeing me like I just hopped out of someone's home window (which would be a tight squeeze) with stolen merchandise. THEN the loser starts to follow me, and I can hear him on his cell phone with the police. I'm going to turn around and ask if he has a problem? If he has something to say that I don't want to hear, I'm going to go upside his head too. In that instance, I am practicing self-defense because I don't feel safe with a guy following me with the evil eye. The difference between Trayvon and myself is that I have a license to carry a firearm as well, and as soon as Zimmerman would've produced his firearm, I would've produced mine and it would've been a shoot-out for the ages! Honestly, Zimmerman needs to hit the weight room on that Big Milt plan if he can't stop a teenager who's 100lb lighter from man-handling him.

Now it's time for me to get really REAL!!!

A lot of people are naive! They really think that if this was a white guy in a black neighborhood, and a black guy hunted him down and got in a scuffle and shot the white guy that he would be free just like Zimmerman is. If you believe that, then you really need a wake-up call. Then I hear Neal Boortz say that Zimmerman was a hispanic and that he couldn't be racist because he's a minority like Trayvon was. Zimmerman was half white and half Peruvian or something. Saying he is hispanic is like saying Barack Obama is white because his mother is white. Then I listen to the news, and they say that Trayvon was suspended from school because he had traces of weed in his bookbag. WHO CARES??? Maybe Zimmerman was mad, because Trayvon didn't share the supply! Whatever the case, Zimmerman is dead wrong, and we have to stop being naive. Racism and prejudice is alive and well around the world on both sides. White teens that wear skateboard outfits and have tattoos get the same evil looks from older people (white or black) as a black teen that wears his pants low and hoodies. Jesus loves those teens the same way that he loves the conservative adult that attends church every service and who are WE to condemn or judge??

On the other side.... don't you democrats screw up this "Stand Your Ground" law. Zimmerman didn't stand his ground, he possibly started getting that butt tagged (pause) by a teenager and shot the guy because he couldn't fight. If he was in pursuit, Trayvon practiced the Stand Your Ground law and defended himself. I'm a firm believer of the Stand your ground law, and I will shoot you down if you intefere with its laws!

You can agree or disagree but I'm just keeping it real..

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

One word comes to my mind when I think about Dr. Martin Luther King : Courage!

To not only look adversity in its face but to chop at its knees with peace and love until it toppled over takes courage like no other.

Growing up, I read, heard, watched documentaries, and did book reports on the civil rights era in the South. To have to drink from a different water fountain, to have to be refused service in a restaurant, to have to sit in the back of a bus all because of the color of your skin still baffles me, but it is what it was!

I remember arguing the point that MLK and Gandhi were fools because they turned the other cheek when they were striked by the oppressors. I sided with Malcolm X because of his approach : you strike me, I strike back.

As, I've gotten older and wiser, I realize that I was the fool all along. MLK's kind and caring spirit was a 100 times stronger and more effective than a punch, ammunition, or knives. Who knows where this country would be if it wasn't for MLK's leadership! I thank God for him!

My favorite quote from MLK is "We may have all come on different ships, but we're in the same boat now"
How simple but so true! Racism and prejudice still exists. People who believe that it doesnt, really irk me. If you know me, then you know race is 90% of my jokes. I came from a diverse city in Conyers, GA. While some people walked around racial relations like egg shells, I always embraced it and tried to make light of it. I am extremely proud of my black history and the roads that Dr. King and all of the civil right leaders paved for me.

Rest in Peace, Dr. King and thank you so much for your efforts!

Top 5 Reasons I Love White People

Looking at my facebook friend list the other day, I came to the realization that I have A LOT of white friends. My black friends may think I've gone Carlton Banks on them, but that is far from the case. In the 5th grade, my mother moved me from Rena Ct to Sugar Hill. If you live outside of Conyers, GA then that statement means nothing to you. Now-a-days, Sugar Hill is predominately black but in the mid-90's, Sugar Hill was predominately white. Rena Ct. is, was, and forever will be predominately black. My observation is that white people and black people are totally different. You can make the argument that we are all God's children but at the end of the day, everybody is unique or odd depending on how you look at em. With my old job, I traveled to Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, & Virginia, so I've met my share of white people. Below are my top 5 reasons why I love SOME white people. Some white people get on my nerves, but that's another story!

#1: White people know how to party: I prefer black parties over white parties only because of the music & entertainment selection (i.e. I don't like beer, so I don't play beer pong). My homey B-rob throws the best parties because he has the best basement in the country. (Hit him up at http://summitdesignandbuild.net) Poker table, pool table, fire pit, hot tub, & a theater. What more could a brotha ask for!

#2: White people pay you back when they borrow money: This really doesn't need explanation. I know some of my homies that are reading this blog probably owe me money now, but its all good! I loan black people money not expecting a cent back. White people give you your money back with interest and you didn't even ask for it.

#3: I don't feel like I owe them anything: if I go over a black friend's house, I feel like I have to have something in hand in order to feel welcome. Bag of ice, salt & pepper, bootleg copy of Madea Goes To Jail, Its always something! You go to a white friend's house, you may leave with stuff and never brought a thing. If I ride with a black person in the car, they bring up gas money like we drove across country or something. White people would drive you across country and give you gas money.

#4: They give the best gifts: In middle school, Katybeth Crow bought me a humongous teddy bear. I have no idea where that bear is (sorry Katybeth) but that gesture taught me that white people give excellent gifts. Nobody beats Pam Giles-Jones (my mother) but whites is definitely up there. I had a girl buy me a gift for my birthday and I returned the favor on her birthday and she bought me a gift for buying her a gift the day after her birthday. I couldn't believe it!

#5: They are overall friendly: I say overall because you still have your racists out there (admit it) but if I walk through a black neighborhood and I wave, I'll probably get a mean mug or a "do I know you" face. If I walk through a non-racist white neighborhood, I'll get invited to church, get yard tips, & probably get invited in their house for dinner.

Moral of the story is.....if you're black: get you some white friends!
